A chess puzzle ladder for Mac and Windows: climb Wood to Grandmaster
Ten tiers, Wood to Grandmaster, each one a fixed band of puzzle ratings. Clear sixteen of twenty puzzles correctly on the first try and you promote; fall short and you get a fresh batch at the same level -- steady, visible progress, no demotion.
First try, no retries
Each puzzle counts as correct only if you solve it on your first guess -- the same standard every rung of the ladder holds you to. A wrong move fails that puzzle immediately, the correct line is shown briefly, and the next one in the batch starts straight away, so the pace stays snappy.
Every attempt, right or wrong, still feeds your overall rating estimate and streak the same way every other mode does -- a puzzle missed on the ladder is the same kind of miss as one missed anywhere else.
Ten tiers, a hundred and fifty levels
Wood, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Sapphire, Ruby, Master, Grandmaster -- fifteen levels each, twenty puzzles per level, drawn from a fixed rating band so the climb genuinely gets harder as you go. There is no demotion: a batch you do not clear just repeats at the same level with twenty fresh puzzles, never a step back.
Good to know
How do I move up a tier in Puzzle Ladder?
Clear sixteen or more of the twenty puzzles in your current level, solved on the first try. Fall short and you get a fresh batch of twenty at the same level, not a demotion.
Is Puzzle Ladder a replacement for Tactics?
No. It is a separate, gamified mode that sits alongside Tactics -- puzzles still feed the same rating estimate and review queue either way.
